The GrowVT-Ed is a union-led collaboration between Vermont-NEA, the Vermont Agency of Education, and Vermont School Districts. The mission of the program is to accelerate new teacher growth through intentional facilitation of relevant content and support leading to the completion of the Peer Review Licensure Portfolio. Peer Review is a Vermont alternate path to licensure where candidates document the competencies for licensure and submit the portfolio for review to the Vermont Agency of Education. Participants should review the AOE Peer Review Handbook.
GrowVT-Ed has been instrumental in supporting hundreds of people gain licensure through this alternate route. Of GrowVT-Ed's first cohort, 80% of the candidates completed their licensure portfolios and achieved licensure. After three years, 80% are still teaching in Vermont classrooms. (As of April 29, 2026)
Vermont-NEA received a generous grant from the National Education Association to plan a new Special Ed Cohort for GrowVT-Ed, so for the 26-27 school year we will have two cohorts, one for Special Educators, and one for other certificate areas!
